Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team for the nightshift. Reports To: House Supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
· License Practical Nurse with current Missouri license; I.V. certification preferred.
· BLS and Basic Arrhythmia required
· ACLS preferred
· STARR certification within first year
Requirements:
· 12 hour shifts
· Weekend obligation
· Holiday obligation
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide professional nursing care for assigned patients according to established nursing standards and practices
· Consult with and keep House Supervisor informed of unit activities, needs, and problems with regard to assigned patients.
· Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for all patients assigned
· Make nursing assessments and formulate plans of care
· Implement and maintain established hospital and nursing policies, procedures, quality performance, safety, and other regulatory requirements.
· Assist with orientation of new personnel and instructional training.
· Maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental relations, and public relations.
· Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information.
· Receive report from previous shift
· Monitor and evaluate assigned C.N.A. performance and inspect patient rooms and work areas
· Direct and supervise assigned C.N.A. as needed.
· Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment
· Take corrective action when violations in policies and procedures occur; follow chain of command.
· Give and obtain information with physicians, organize supply and dressing needs, assist physicians with examinations and treatments as needed, carry out physician orders.
· Assure continuous and correct identification of all patients on the unit.
· Assure that charting is current, accurate, and complete.
· Review charts to see that all permits, authorizations, releases, and other required forms are completed.
· Take and transcribe physicians' orders to appropriate records, schedules, lists, etc.
· Plan and initiate discharge planning.
· Keep equipment clean and in good working order.
· Prepare incident reports when needed.
· Make nursing rounds, evaluate patients' condition, answer questions, give instructions, take vital signs, and check functioning of medical equipment.
· Prepare and administer prescribed medications; perform prescribed treatments.
· Observe and monitor intravenous fluid treatment, maintain the calculated flow rate of intravenous infusions, discontinue, report and document observations and procedures performed.
· LPN who have satisfactorily completed an approved course of instruction for intravenous infusion under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse may calculate the rate of intravenous flow, add parenteral solutions to existing patient intravenous lines, change intravenous tubing and dressings, initiate peripheral intravenous fluid treatment, add premixed medications to existing patient intravenous lines by either continuous or intermittent methods, and maintain potency of heparin locks.
· Notify House Supervisor and/or physician of significant changes in patient's response to medications and treatments.
· Recognize emergencies and respond with proper protocol.
· Notify family, physician, and clergy as needed.
· Attend meetings and required in-services.
· Maintain courteous communications and project a positive and helpful attitude toward patients, visitors, the public, medical staff, and fellow hospital employees.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
