Job Purpose:

The function of the Estimator I is to evaluate, develop, and maintain estimates and project coordination from preliminary evaluation, to bid, and through contracting.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations:

1.  Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracts for construction projects based on preliminary information, contract requirements, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.

2.   Establish and maintain the pre-contract bidding process to achieve bid scheduling and established weekly goals.

3.   Review and evaluate project documents to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project.

4.   Generate Request for Information clarification requests to identify project unknowns, risks, and conflicts.

5.   Accurately measure areas and volumes to generate estimate quantities.

6.   Clearly articulate the methodology and reasoning underlying the pricing and quoting to project managers, managers, clients, and vendors.

7.   Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.

8.   Prepare and solicit subcontractor quote requests for project estimates.

9.   Liaise, consult, and communicate with project managers, engineers, accounting, and subcontractors to

develop comprehensive scopes of work, estimates, budgets, and bid packages for project opportunities.

10. Organize, communicate, and hand-off successful project estimates to the operations team.

11. Evaluate and implement technological improvements to increase department productivity.

15. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Requirements:


• Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications as required to perform the estimator role efficiently and accurately.


• English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.


• Building and Construction - Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools for construction.


• Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

Skills:


•   Time management to meet deadlines


•   Speed in performing responsibilities


•   Detail-oriented and organized to complete assignments efficiently and accurately


•   Able to break down construction operations into a logical sequence of activities


• Able to operate and navigate software-based platforms in real-time. Most specifically, intermediate MS Excel user and skill level.


• Quick Learner – Training is provided for estimating techniques, industry terms, construction methods, and production rates

Education:


•   High school diploma or equivalent


•   College education is preferred, especially with a focus in construction management or engineering.

Other requirements:


•   Experience in the construction and/or coatings industry


•   Experience in accurately measuring jobs and generating estimates


•   Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications


•   Valid driver's license, with a clean driving record, and a reliable vehicle

Working Conditions:

  • This position will require some interaction with outside customers, owners, engineers, and contractors, as well as CCR and CROM personnel. This position will primarily be an office position. Extended hours may be required to meet deadlines.
