The Team You Will Be Joining
The team combines technical expertise in flood modeling, GIS, and water resources with stakeholder engagement to protect Texas communities. It's a fast-paced environment with opportunities for leadership, hands-on problem solving, and making a real statewide impact.

Major Duties

  • Flood Modeling & Analysis: Run hydrologic and hydraulic models (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, etc.) to predict flood behavior in rivers, streams, and urban areas. Analyze flood-prone zones using topographic, soil, and hydrologic data.
  • Flood Warning Systems: Design and implement early warning systems (e.g., flood sirens), including site selection, operational planning, and reliability assessment.
  • SB3 Implementation Leadership: Lead technical and strategic execution of Texas' Senate Bill 3 initiatives, including flash flood mapping and early warning guidance.
  • Project & Team Management: Oversee projects, staff, and contractors; prioritize tasks; and ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Present technical information to communities, state agencies, and the public in an accessible way.
  • Policy & Guidance Development: Draft and review memos, reports, procedures, and policies to enhance flood preparedness programs.
  • Data & Technical Tools: Manage large datasets, GIS mapping, and data visualization; apply coding/scripting (Python, Matlab, Fortran) for modeling and analysis.

What are we looking for?

  • Texas PE license with minimum 5 years' experience.
  • 9+ years of relevant experience in floodplain management, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, or surface water resources.
  • Hands-on experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, GIS, and flood warning systems.
  • Proven project leadership and experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting technical content to non-technical stakeholders.

Exciting Opportunity Details

  • Rate: $80.00/hour
  • Length of Engagement: 8 months (high possibility of extension)
  • Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm.
  • Location: Austin, TX Hybrid)
