Working onsite in Berkeley, this position supports the founder directly by helping build the early team, shaping basic HR processes, and contributing to a strong culture as the company prepares for launch.

The internship is with a single stealth‑mode consumer tech startup based in Berkeley, focused on one core product that reimagines how people discover and experience everyday food and lifestyle choices. The company is pre‑launch, operating with a small, focused team while it refines the product and readies go‑to‑market.
Ideal candidate
The candidate should be locally based in Berkeley or able to commute regularly and eager to work primarily onsite with flexible hours. The role suits students or recent graduates who are passionate about startups, enjoy working with people, and want to learn how HR and recruiting work from the ground up in a fast‑moving environment.
Key responsibilities
Actively support hiring for intern and junior roles, including sourcing candidates, reviewing applications, and scheduling interviews.
Proactively manage candidate outreach, relationship management, and follow‑ups, ensuring a smooth and respectful candidate experience.
Organize and coordinate onsite interviews and meetings, maintain calendars, and keep candidate and HR records up to date.
Assist the founder with people‑related initiatives such as onboarding, simple policies, feedback collection, and team‑building rituals.
Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in all HR interactions, acting as a trusted representative of the founder.
Conduct light research on HR best practices and tools suitable for an early‑stage consumer tech startup and help implement lightweight processes.
Additional role dimensions
Support cross‑functional initiatives that touch hiring, basic HR reporting, and internal communication.
Provide on‑the‑ground feedback from candidates and team members to refine hiring and onboarding tactics.
Serve as a liaison between the founder and candidates/early team members, helping ensure clarity, follow‑through, and alignment.
Compensation and duration
This is an unpaid, three‑month internship designed primarily for learning, exposure, and mentorship rather than replacing a full‑time role; hours are flexible and can be aligned with academic schedules.
There is a possibility of a paid extension after the initial three months, based on performance, mutual fit, and company needs.
