Are you a hands-on, safety-focused Refrigeration Systems Ammonia Technician with 3+ years of experience and a solid understanding of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems?

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-minded Ammonia Technician to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial refrigeration and utility systems at our high-volume baking facility. The role ensures continuous facility operations, supports environmental compliance, and upholds safety standards.

This is a Technical Maintenance role, NOT a Janitorial or Sanitation position. Candidates must have demonstrated experience with industrial refrigeration systems and a commitment to safety and compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and operate ammonia refrigeration, Freon-based HVAC, steam boilers, thermal oxidizers, compressed air, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Ensure continuous operation of utility systems to support production needs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and plumbing systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections to optimize equipment efficiency.
  • Maintain records and assist in compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) regulations.
  • Provide technical analysis on refrigeration and operational equipment performance.
  • Support emergency response efforts for hazardous chemical releases.
  • Work with external vendors to maintain equipment and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Uphold Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and company safety policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Working Conditions:
  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, climb stairs/ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Potential exposure to sugar dust, refrigerants, and chemicals.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certifications:
  • Ammonia refrigeration certification highly preferred.
  • HVAC certification preferred.
  • PSM training preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with ammonia refrigeration, Freon-based HVAC, steam boilers, thermal oxidizers, compressed air, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience in a maintenance role, preferably within a food processing or manufacturing plant.
  • Basic knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) is a plus.
  • Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical distribution, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.
