Wine Specialist @ Killer Queen

Job Summary
Killer Queen is a cozy, local wine bar dedicated to bringing exceptional and unique wines to our community. We pride ourselves on creating a warm, inviting atmosphere where guests can explore a curated selection of wines from around the world, expertly paired with our seasonal small plates. We're looking for a passionate individual to join our team and help us deliver memorable guest experiences.

This wine enthusiast will join our small team in delivering exceptional food and beverage experiences. Our ideal candidate will possess excellent guest service service skills and an excitement for the world of wine and sharing that knowledge

We encourage our staff to let their personalities shine and showcase what a special place Killer Queen has become to the downtown Durham community. Part of this position includes food menu service, and preparation of items.

Responsibilities

• Warmly greet guests and provide exceptional, personalized customer service.
• Provide detailed recommendations and guide guests through our extensive wine list, suggesting pairings with our food menu.
• Prepare and serve wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages accurately and efficiently.
• Assist with menu preparation, and food presentation to meet quality standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked bar area, including glassware and inventory.
• Process payments accurately using our POS system and manage open tabs.
• Adhere to all state and local alcohol serving laws, including checking identification to verify legal drinking age.
• Assist with opening and closing duties, including setting up the bar, cleaning dining room, patios and restroom, and cash handling accountability.

Qualifications

• Previous bartending or serving experience in a restaurant or bar setting is preferred.
• A strong foundational knowledge of different wine varieties and an eagerness to learn more is essential; along with retaining new wine knowledge.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a positive and outgoing personality is a must..
• Must have flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
• Previous experience in food industry roles such as meal preparation or food safety certification is advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism.
