Survey Field Technician (Full-Time, Hourly)

What you'll need:

  • High School Diploma
  • Strong desire to learn new skills
  • Enjoy all 4 of Minnesota's seasons
  • Strong attention to detail

  • Valid MN Driver's License with satisfactory driving record

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • 2-year Land Surveying Certificate
  • 4-year Bachelor's degree
  • Experience using AutoCAD in class, on an internship or during other employment

You're Impact

  • Maintain and operate survey instruments and measuring devices
  • Research survey findings, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records
  • Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches
  • Calibrate survey instruments (e.g., prisms, theodolites, and Robotic Total Stations and GPS)
  • Perform calculations (e.g., earth curvature corrections, atmospheric impacts on measurements, traverse closures and adjustments, azimuths, level runs, and placement of markers)
  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings
  • Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points
  • Position and hold vertical rods, or targets
  • Lay out grids
  • Set out and recover stakes, marks, etc.
  • Hold level or stadia rod at designated points to assist senior members of crew
  • Call out reading or write station number and reading in notebook
  • Mark points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark
  • Measure distance between survey points with various survey equipment
  • Mark measuring points with keel (marking crayon), paint sticks, scratches, tacks, or stakes
  • Place stakes at designated points and drive them into ground at specified elevation
  • Cut and clear brush and trees from line of survey

Travel? Some - Position could require occasional overnight travel, however most travel is local so you are home in the evenings, and completed using Rani Engineering fleet vehicles.

Physical Requirements? Indeed, here they are -

  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to walk and talk or hear; occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
