POSITION OVERVIEW

Summary: R. M Lucas Company headquartered in Alsip, Illinois is looking for a Regional Sales Representative for driving the overall sales growth of RM Lucas brand of roof coatings, adhesives, and sealants across distribution and direct channels within the designated Eastern Midwest territory. The primary focus is achieving significant market share growth and expanding the existing customer base.

Territory

The geographic focus encompasses Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, the western half of West Virginia, and most of Indiana and Eastern Illinois (excluding the greater Chicago metropolitan area in both states).

Essential Duties

This role requires a proactive and results-oriented approach, focusing on sustained sales growth and market penetration.

  • Sales Strategy & Execution: Develop and execute a comprehensive business growth plan to achieve or exceed sales objectives set by RM Lucas management.
  • Relationship Management: Foster and maintain strong business relationships with key contractors, distributors, specifiers, property management firms, and building owners to drive product adoption.
  • Product Expertise: Acquire and maintain a deep, substantial knowledge of the RM Lucas product lines, specifications, and the competitive landscape, including competitor pricing and specifications. Focus on selling the full product line, with a particular emphasis on Silicone and SEBS products.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Actively gather competitive intelligence and provide actionable feedback to the Director of Sales, suggesting methods and actions to capture market share.
  • Presentation & Education: Conduct professional product presentations and educational sessions for targeted audiences (contractors, distributors, specifiers, building owners).
  • Independent Representative Management: Where approved by the Director of Sales, identify, onboard, and manage the performance of a secondary sales team of independent sales representatives outside the Regional Sales Representative's local area.
  • Technical Support & Warranty: Guide customers through warranty requirements and procedures. Administer warranty inspections, including physical roof inspections, sample collection (photographic and physical), and submitting required reports to the Director of Sales.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with internal functional teams (e.g., Marketing, Technical, Customer Service, Finance) to support company-wide initiatives and customer success.
  • Administrative & Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer data within the company CRM (HubSpot). Provide the Director of Sales with timely feedback regarding market needs, marketing initiatives, and new product opportunities.
  • Travel & Industry Engagement: Attend relevant trade shows and industry events.

Travel Requirements

This position requires significant travel throughout the territory, estimated to be 50% to 75% of monthly workdays, including overnight stays.

Qualifications

  • Preferred candidate should have a minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience in the commercial roofing industry (e.g., commercial roofing distribution, contracting, or manufacturer sales).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commercial roofing systems and assemblies.
  • Established, meaningful relationships with commercial roofing distributors and/or commercial roofing contractors within the defined territory.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for territory travel.
  • Must be able to successfully climb ladders up to 40 feet high for site inspections.

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred but not mandatory.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Meets, Google Calendar, Google Drive).
  • Experience utilizing a CRM system (HubSpot preferred).

Supervisory Responsibility

Responsible for the performance management of approved independent sales representatives.

Work Environment

This is a remote position requiring the maintenance of a functional home office. The role involves regular physical activity, including climbing ladders and inspecting commercial roof surfaces, as described under Physical Demands.

Compensation & Benefit Information:

Base Salary Range from $75k/yr to $100k/yr + commission based on individual candidate experience, geographic location, skill, education and/or qualifications.
