We are seeking a skilled Paralegal with a strong emphasis on written discovery to support our family law division.

Job Summary We are looking for an organized, proactive Paralegal who specializes in family law and has a demonstrated focus on written discovery. The ideal candidate will manage discovery workflows, draft and respond to discovery requests, oversee document collection and production, and assist attorneys with case preparation from intake through trial. This role requires excellent written communication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of written discovery in family law matters, including drafting interrogatories, requests for production of documents, requests for admission, and related correspondence.
  • Draft and respond to discovery requests in accordance with applicable state laws and court rules.
  • Coordinate and supervise the collection, review, and production of documents and electronically stored information (ESI) from clients, opposing parties, third parties, and vendors.
  • Prepare discovery calendars, track deadlines, and ensure timely service and compliance with court rules.
  • Assist attorneys with case strategy, motion practice, and trial preparation; organize and index exhibits, pleadings, and trial bundles.
  • Maintain case management files, conduct conflict checks, and ensure confidentiality and data security.
  • Communicate with clients to obtain, clarify, and update information necessary for discovery and case progression; provide periodic status updates to attorneys.
  • Draft legal correspondence, subpoenas, and non-party discovery requests as needed.
  • Analyze and summarize discovery responses; highlight issues requiring follow-up or clarification.
  • Perform legal research on family law topics as needed to support discovery and case strategy.
  • Assist with eDiscovery tasks, including handling metadata, filtering, and privilege logging when applicable.
  • Assist with trial preparation, including witness lists, exhibit lists, and securing evidence.

Qualifications

  • Education: Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program or a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or comparable experience.
  • Experience: 3+ years of paralegal experience, with at least 2 years in family law and a demonstrated focus on written discovery.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of family law practice areas (divorce, custody, child support, parenting plans, alimony) and court rules governing discovery in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Skills:
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities; ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and document management software.
  • Proficiency with MyCase as the primary practice management and discovery platform; experience with e-filing systems.
  • Attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment with sensitive information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and colleagues.
  • Desired:
  • Bilingual abilities (e.g., English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Experience with subpoenas, subpoenas to third parties, and organizational systems for large document productions.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and cost-conscious discovery practices.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced family law practice with a focus on accurate, timely discovery and client-centered service.
  • Hybrid or in-office arrangement; remote work is a possible option where feasible and agreed upon.
  • Occasional travel for court appearances or client meetings may be required.
