Estimated Hiring Salary Range: $48, $55,358.00 Full Salary Range: $43, $78, Annually

Monday- Thursday 6:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.

About the Role:
The Heavy Equipment Operator performs skilled work operating a variety of heavy and light equipment used in the construction, repair, and maintenance of the City's stormwater systems, roads, and rights-of-way.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, motor graders, dump trucks, rubber tire loaders, track excavators, vactor trucks, and bulldozers for construction and maintenance tasks
- Maintain and repair storm drainage systems, creeks, ditches, streets, parks, and rights-of-way
- Perform manual labor, including concrete work, jackhammering, tree and debris removal, and minor repairs
- Operate hand and power tools such as chainsaws, grease machines, and pole saws
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on assigned equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and safety checks
- Participate in seasonal and emergency response operations, including loose leaf collection, snow and ice removal, and storm debris cleanup
- Follow all City of Greensboro and OSHA safety standards to ensure a safe work environment
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with crew members and supervisors to complete projects efficiently

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED, with 1+ years of experience operating heavy equipment –( i.e.,backhoes, motor graders, dump trucks, track excavators, vactor trucks, and bulldozers)for construction and maintenance tasks.
- "Or" 3 years of education with 4+ years experience operating heavy equipment – ( i.e., backhoes, motor graders, dump trucks, track excavators, vactor trucks, and bulldozers) for construction and maintenance tasks.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment)
- CDL tanker endorsement; If assigned to Stormwater Division
- Miner Certification ("Or" ability to obtain within one year)
- A Forklift Operator's License is required if operating a forklift
Preferred Qualifications:
- Class A or B Commercial Driver's License
- Experience with Safe Work Practices, safety rules, and protocols
- Construction and maintenance experience in an outside environment
- Experience reading blueprints or cut sheets
- Experience interpreting grade stakes and digging on grade
