Health Sciences Core Research Facilities - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh

Evaluates business requirements, creates data ingestion processes and modeling, and supports databases and relevant services. Ensures the quality of operational data by conducting regular audits and maintaining accurate records. Supports data analysts and scientists with research and consulting by providing inventory reports as requested. Maintaining the PBC website to ensure all information is accurate and up to date. Assists with processing monthly billing through the University's billing system (iLab). Performs additional administrative duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. Working knowledge of common software tools and databases relevant to biospecimens is preferred. Experience with specialized software programs such as MS SQL Server and RStudio are required for this role. Some knowledge of Microsoft Visual Basic is preferred.

Job Summary

Supports multiple more complex services/databases; designs, develops, manages, and maintains databases. Plans and maintains database architecture and reporting. Optimizes database functions and implements integrated architecture and reporting updates. Trains and guides lower-level staff.

Essential Functions

The Pitt Biospecimen Core (PBC) is an institutional resource for collection, processing, and disbursement of biospecimens dedicated to serving the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Faculty in meeting their research needs. PBC Labs are located at UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Magee-Womens, UPMC Shadyside and UPMC Children's Hospitals. The PBC is seeking a full-time Data Base Administrator that would be responsible for supporting multiple moderately complex databases by planning, managing, and maintaining database systems, generating and maintaining reports, and troubleshooting database issues. Completing applicable CITI modules to become an honest broker. Calculates monthly metrics for fresh disbursements, collections, and storage accumulation. Provides monthly collection reports to appropriate investigators.
