UST is seeking a
Senior Cognos Developer with Ab Initio
expertise to help design, build, and optimize enterprise business intelligence and data integration solutions for one of the leading healthcare providers in the United States. This role is ideal for a seasoned BI professional who can lead Cognos development while also contributing to ETL solutioning, impact assessment, and integration using Ab Initio.

The Opportunity

  • Cognos Development & Optimization Report & Dashboard Development: Design, develop, and maintain complex Cognos reports, dashboards, and visualizations to meet diverse business needs.
  • Data Modeling: Create, optimize, and maintain Framework Manager models supporting analytical and reporting solutions.
  • Performance Tuning: Optimize Cognos reports, queries, and data models for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Cognos Upgrades: Perform, validate, and troubleshoot Cognos version upgrades with minimal business disruption.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing, validation, and peer reviews to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Ab Initio / ETL Integration ETL Collaboration: Work closely with Ab Initio ETL teams to ensure seamless data integration into Cognos environments.
  • Data Analysis: Perform source-to-target data analysis to validate data structures, mappings, and transformations.
  • Impact Assessment: Evaluate ETL impacts on existing Cognos reports and data models for new requirements or enhancements.
  • ETL Oversight: Provide guidance to ETL teams on data structures, quality requirements, and downstream BI impacts.
  • Technical Leadership & Best Practices Technical Guidance: Mentor and guide junior developers (Cognos and ETL), ensuring adherence to BI best practices.
  • Impact Analysis: Assess scope and impact of changes, new features, and enhancements across the BI ecosystem.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process and development optimization, including automation, documentation, and CI/CD for BI assets.
  • Best Practices Adoption: Implement industry and organizational best practices for data modeling, BI solutioning, and data governance.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Risk Management Requirement Gathering: Partner with business stakeholders to translate business needs into functional and technical specifications.
  • Communication: Deliver clear and timely updates to clients, team members, and senior management.
  • Risk Identification: Proactively identify development risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • User Training & Support: Provide training and ongoing support for Cognos reports, dashboards, and BI tools.
  • Documentation & Compliance Documentation: Maintain comprehensive technical and functional documentation for reports, models, and BI processes.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure solutions meet PHI/PII handling standards and regulatory compliance within healthcare environments.

This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.

What You Need

  • Strong proficiency in Report Studio, Query Studio, Analysis Studio, and Framework Manager.
  • SQL & Databases: Expertise in SQL with experience in DB2, Postgres, and data warehouse environments.
  • Ab Initio Experience: Hands-on experience with Ab Initio GDE, EME, MDH, and Control Center. Understanding of ETL design, data transformations, and job optimization. Ability to analyze ETL processes and provide guidance for downstream reporting impacts.
  • BI & Data Warehousing: Strong understanding of DW concepts, star/snowflake schemas, and ETL/ELT best practices.
  • Tools Knowledge: Familiarity with Control-M scheduler and other BI tools (Tableau, Power BI preferred).
  • Healthcare Data: Experience with medical/prescription claims, provider data, and enrollment data is a strong plus.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage difficult stakeholders and navigate complex situations.
  • Experience 7+ years of Cognos development experience.
  • 3+ years working in Ab Initio or similar ETL environments.
  • Experience handling PHI/PII and working within healthcare data ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading BI improvements and fostering technical excellence.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in a related discipline.
  • You Will Stand Out If You Have extensive experience performing and validating Cognos upgrades. Are proactive in driving process and quality improvements across BI and ETL teams. Excel at solving complex technical challenges across reporting and ETL layers. Are passionate about business intelligence, data quality, and continuous improvement.

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.

$82,000 - $123,000

Benefits
Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty.
