Miller Johnson is seeking a full-time
Events Coordinator
to join our Marketing, Communications, and Brand team. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing a wide range of internal and external events that support firmwide initiatives, enhance client relationships, and foster team member engagement. The Events Coordinator will work closely with Human Resources and other departments to deliver high-quality, memorable experiences that reflect the firm's values and strategic goals. This position may be based out of our office locations in
Detroit
or
Grand
Rapids

Responsibilities

External Events

  • Plan and execute client-facing events including educational seminars, appreciation receptions, and entertainment outings
  • Manage event logistics including venue selection, vendor coordination, catering, signage, attendee materials, and on-site execution
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to promote events, including email campaigns, intranet website updates, the Firm's website, and social media outreach
  • Monitor RSVPs and attendance trends; utilize the firm's website event management software and CRM system to track engagement and generate reports
  • Conduct post-event evaluations to assess success and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Oversee firm entertainment tickets and client gift inventory

Internal Events

  • Lead planning and execution of firm-sponsored internal events, including but not limited to: Family Holiday Party, Family Summer Outing, Firm Holiday Party, Retirement and Milestone Recognition, Member Retreat, Practice Group and Department Events
  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure events align with firm culture and employee engagement objectives

Sponsorships

  • Serve as the point of contact for requests related to community contributions and sponsorships
  • Track and report on sponsorships and contributions to ensure alignment with business development and community support goals

Qualifications

  • Degree in Marketing, Business, Event Management, Communications, Hospitality, or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience coordinating events, hospitality programs, or complex logistics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to interact confidently with attorneys, staff, clients, and vendors
  • Highly organized with ability to manage multiple events, timelines, and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
  • Client-focused mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to support events during early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekends
  • Ability to travel frequently between firm offices (Grand Rapids, Detroit, Kalamazoo, Chicago)
  • Ability to lift and transport event materials (up to 20 lbs)

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in professional services, law firm, or corporate environment
  • Familiarity with event management systems, CRM tools, or marketing platforms
  • Basic design skills for event signage, presentations, or digital assets (e.g., Canva, PowerPoint layouts)
  • Experience coordinating vendors such as caterers, venues, printers, and A/V teams
  • Understanding of hospitality standards and guest experience best practices
  • Ability to analyze event attendance, feedback, or engagement trends for continuous improvement
