SUMMARY
Provide support for the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Department, specifically as it relates to financial analysis, grant monitoring, housing management and miscellaneous reconciliations. Handle responsibilities and assignments in a professional and timely manner thereby creating a productive and effective workplace.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Monthly departmental financials
Analyze departmental financials
Compare monthly results to annual budget
Provide updated projections for remaining fiscal year
Finance Committee and Board Meeting charts
Prepare standard financial report package for Finance Committee meetings
Prepare standard financial report package for Board meetings
Prepare any ad hoc financial reporting for Finance Committee and/or Board meetings
Create financial / operational dashboards
Collaborate with departments to create departmental and program dashboards
Maintain and update dashboards
Prepare Monthly grant spending report and projection
Monitor spending by grant
Prepare grant spending projections
Advise grant managers on optimum grant spend usage
Participate in grant budget creation
Agency fiscal year budget
Collaborate with departments to generate fiscal year budgets
Provide appropriate historical data to develop fiscal year budgets
Use operational assumptions/drivers to create a logical budget
Monitor budget performance and explain variances using the operational drivers
Update fiscal year projections
Additional responsibilities
Create and update an agency cash flow forecast
Support housing management review and understand monthly financials for each housing site
Support development and other departments as necessary under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer
Support Controller with review of financial information and managing reconciliations, providing a separation of duties.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITES
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and minimum of three (3) years financial planning/analysis and general accounting experience, MBA preferred
Intellectual Curiosity: Probes beyond surface answers, seeks context, and evaluates the implications of financial activity. Apply structured reasoning to understand what is driving results and how decisions shape outcomes.
Advanced Excel Skills, BI tool experience preferred
Experience working with ERP systems.
Must be highly organized and detail-oriented and able to work independently
Must have excellent communication skills and ability to communicate financial information to program and operations teams
Able to produce accurate work product in a timely manner and consistently meet deadlines
Customer service oriented
Additional responsibilities
Maintain compliance with VOA Michigan policies and procedures
Ensure that all duties are carried out in a timely and orderly fashion so that VOA Michigan functions in the most efficient manner possible
Other duties as assigned
