Position Summary
The CDL-A Lead Driver is responsible for safely operating company vehicles, coordinating daily hauling operations, and serving as the primary point of contact for the driving team. This role combines hands-on driving responsibilities with leadership duties, including training new drivers, monitoring safety compliance, and ensuring efficient, on-time deliveries. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, experience hauling various materials/equipment, and a solid understanding of DOT regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate CDL-A commercial vehicles, including flatbeds, dump trucks, lowboys, and/or trailer combinations as assigned
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of CDL drivers; act as the go-to resource for questions, guidance, and troubleshooting
- Train new drivers on company procedures, equipment operation, safety expectations, and best practices
- Assist with scheduling routes, coordinating loads, and communicating job priorities
- Ensure all drivers follow DOT, company, and job-site safety standards
- Conduct pre-trip, in-route, and post-trip inspections; promptly report defects or maintenance needs
- Maintain accurate logs, paperwork, and documentation required for compliance
- Communicate delays, issues, or route changes to dispatch/management in a timely manner
- Haul materials, equipment, or supplies to and from job sites as needed
- Support snow-event operations (if applicable), including plowing, hauling, or assisting crews
- Represent the company professionally with customers, contractors, and field staff
- Assist with other operational duties as assigned
- Snow events are mandatory
Qualifications
- Valid CDL-A license with a clean driving record
- Minimum of 3–5 years of commercial driving experience (heavy haul, construction, or similar preferred)
- Experience leading or mentoring drivers is strongly preferred
- Ability to haul various trailers (flatbed, equipment trailer, dump, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safety compliance
- Ability to chain/strap loads and operate in all weather conditions
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work extended hours or irregular shifts when needed
- Must be able to be badged at restricted facilities (e.g., airport) if required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs when necessary
- Ability to climb, bend, and work around heavy equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Work Environment
- Primarily on the road and at job sites
- Exposure to construction environments, uneven terrain, and seasonal weather
- Occasional office or yard-related duties

Pay: $ $33.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
