Role Overview
The Veterinary Technician is an essential member of our veterinary hospital team, responsible for assisting veterinarians in the care and treatment of animals. This role involves performing a variety of technical procedures, maintaining accurate medical records, ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the hospital environment, and engaging with clients through empathetic and transparent communication regarding their pets' health and treatment plans. The Veterinary Technician plays a vital role in ensuring smooth hospital operations and the overall well-being of our patients.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties
- Assist veterinarians in the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of animals, ensuring the highest standard of patient care.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed, following strict safety protocols.
- Perform routine procedures such as wound care, suture removal, and dental cleanings.
- Monitor patients during surgery and provide comprehensive post-operative care, including pain management.
- Ensure proper restraint and handling of animals, prioritizing safety and comfort.
- Administer and monitor anesthesia under veterinary supervision.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients.
Laboratory and Diagnostic Procedures
- Collect and process laboratory samples, including blood, urine, and tissue.
- Perform routine diagnostics such as blood chemistry, urinalysis, and X-rays.
- Prepare and assist in interpreting lab results to support accurate diagnoses.
- Assist veterinarians in communicating diagnostic findings to clients.
Client Communication and Education
- Greet and communicate with clients in a professional, empathetic manner.
- Provide clear explanations regarding diagnoses, medications, and treatment plans.
- Respond to client inquiries via phone, email, or in person.
- Educate clients on preventative care, post-treatment care, and overall pet health.
- Uphold the company's values of transparency, empathy, and trust.
Medical Equipment & Hospital Environment
- Operate and maintain veterinary equipment, including X-ray and anesthesia machines, infusion pumps, and monitoring equipment.
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments following strict infection-control protocols.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, treatment areas, ICU, cages, laundry, dog kitchen, and restrooms.
- Maintain a clean and organized ICU, ensuring all equipment is functioning properly and all TVs are displaying Instinct.
- Ensure proper disposal of medical waste and sharps according to safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of experience in an Emergency Room (ER) setting (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common medical conditions.
- Proficiency in blood draws, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and surgical assistance.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, lab procedures, and diagnostic imaging.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach toward animals and their owners.
- Physical stamina to handle animals of various sizes.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and emergency shifts as needed.
Schedule
This is a full-time position. The regular schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts per week, structured as follows:
- Tuesday: Overnight shift at Green Light Pet Hospital in Lake Nona
- Friday and Saturday: Day shifts at All 4 Pets Hospital in Ocoee
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $ $25.00 per hour
