Prep Cook

Position Summary

The Prep Cook supports the culinary team by preparing ingredients, assisting with meal production, and maintaining a clean, organized kitchen in accordance with health and safety standards. This position plays an important role in providing residents with nutritious, appealing meals in a warm, home-like dining environment. The Prep Cook may also assist with washing dishes and kitchen sanitation as needed to ensure smooth operation of the dining program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and portion food items according to recipes, menus, and production schedules.

Wash, peel, chop, slice, and measure ingredients to assist in meal preparation.

Support cooks and chefs with cooking tasks, plating, and serving as directed.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of food preparation areas, storage, and equipment.

Assist with dishwashing, cleaning, and sanitizing kitchenware, utensils, and work surfaces when needed.

Ensure all food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures comply with local health department regulations and facility policies.

Monitor food quality and report any concerns or shortages to the supervisor promptly.

Properly label and store leftovers or prepared ingredients according to safety guidelines.

Participate in meal service and resident engagement as part of the dining team.

Support kitchen operations during special events or modified schedules.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Prior experience in food preparation or a similar role, preferably in healthcare, senior living, or hospitality settings.

Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation standards (ServSafe certification preferred).

Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and portion guidelines accurately.

Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Flexibility to assist with a variety of kitchen tasks, including dishwashing, as needed.

Requirements:

• Must successfully pass a Live Scan background check, pre-employment physical, and TB test as required by state regulations.
