Position Summary
W&G Construction Co. is seeking a motivated Assistant Superintendent to support the on-site execution of commercial construction projects from start to finish. The Assistant Superintendent will assist in managing daily field operations, coordinating subcontractors and trade partners, and helping ensure projects are built safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role works closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, clients, and design teams to maintain effective communication, uphold quality standards, and support the successful delivery of each project.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Superintendent in coordinating on-site construction activities, serving as a key field contact for the project team and assisting with subcontractor oversight.
- Assist in ensuring projects are constructed in accordance with contractual documents, specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes and regulations.
- Help enforce corporate safety programs, maintain a safe jobsite, and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
- Support planning, scheduling, and directing daily construction activities, monitoring project progress, and assisting with recovery plans to maintain schedule and budget objectives.
- Participate in preconstruction planning, weekly progress meetings, and coordination with design teams, trade partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Assist in maintaining and distributing project documentation, including daily reports, QC/QA logs, inspection records, RFIs, submittals, and punch lists.
- Monitor labor productivity, quality control measures, and construction practices under the guidance of the Superintendent to minimize delays, rework, and non-conformance.
- Conduct site inspections and help identify and resolve field issues, proactively supporting risk mitigation and successful project delivery.
- Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, final inspections, and preparation of record drawings and documentation.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to support effective communication and collaboration.
- Utilize construction management technology and software tools (Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling software, etc.) to assist with workflow, documentation, and project tracking.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite while modeling company values and supporting a culture of accountability, safety, and excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 2 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Working knowledge of all phases of construction, including commercial interiors, multi-story structures, sitework, finishes, MEP systems, and exterior improvements.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical specifications, and architectural drawings.
- OSHA 30-hour and CPR certifications preferred, basic understanding of construction safety policies and compliance.
- Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient with construction management software, including Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and scheduling tools.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with Superintendents, trade partners, and internal teams.
- Experience assisting with project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, progress reports, and punch lists, and ensuring accurate recordkeeping.
- Ability to conduct site observations, monitor work progress, and assist in resolving field issues while maintaining quality standards.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites as required.
