Glenburnie Health & Rehab Center in Richmond, VA, in partnership with LiveWell Healthcare Solutions, is seeking dedicated individuals to join our kitchen team.

This position is employed by LiveWell Healthcare Solutions, which provides high-quality dining and hospitality services within our facility. As a key member of the kitchen team, you will help support daily meal preparation and service for our residents, contributing to a positive dining experience and supporting our commitment to delivering Care Beyond Compare .

The Dietary Cook is responsible for:

  • Upholding Live Well's mission statement and attending to our facilities with integrity and attention to detail.
  • For preparing and cooking meals for residents in accordance with their individual dietary needs and preferences.
  • You will work closely with the dietary team to ensure that meals are nutritious, delicious, and meet all dietary requirements and safety standards.

Responsibilities

A successful Dietary Cook will be able to:

  • Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus, ensuring that meals are nutritious, appetizing, and meet residents' dietary needs and preferences.
  • Dietary Compliance: Adhere to dietary guidelines and restrictions specified for each resident, including special diets such as low-sodium, diabetic, pureed, or texture-modified diets.
  • Menu Planning: Assist in developing and planning menus in collaboration with the dietary team, considering residents' dietary requirements, seasonal availability of ingredients, and budgetary constraints.
  • Food Safety: Always ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper food storage, handling, and preparation techniques to prevent foodborne illnesses.
  • Quality Control: Monitor food quality and presentation throughout the cooking process to ensure that meals meet established standards for taste, appearance, and texture.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records of food and supplies, notifying supervisors of shortages, and assisting with inventory ordering and stocking as needed.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment, utensils, and work surfaces, to ensure a safe and sanitary cooking environment.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other dietary staff, including dietary aides and nutritionists, to coordinate meal service and ensure efficient kitchen operations.
  • Resident Interaction: Communicate effectively with residents and dietary staff regarding menu options, special requests, and dietary concerns, providing excellent customer service and fostering a positive dining experience.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a cook in a healthcare or institutional setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements and special diets, such as therapeutic diets for medical conditions.
  • Familiarity with food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Culinary training or certification from a culinary school or program preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing up to 95% of the time
  • Lifting and carrying 25% of time (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Pushing and pulling 25% of the time (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Bending, twisting, reaching, etc. 25% of the time

Exposure/ Work Environment

  • Exposure to chemicals both hazardous and caustic, effecting eyes, hands, face lungs, etc.
  • Exposure to confidential materials
  • Sound levels may be high due to machinery.
  • Work hours may vary and include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • The work environment includes kitchen, dining areas, and resident rooms.
  • May be exposed to hot surfaces, sharp utensils, and cleaning chemicals.
