Position Summary

The Meat Cutter Apprentice / Journeyman plays a dual role, providing exceptional customer service (like a Meat Clerk) while learning and executing the essential craft of meat cutting (like a Butcher). We are committed to training the right individuals to become skilled Meat Cutters while relying on journeymen to immediately contribute their expertise.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Customer Service Excellence (Meat Clerk Duties): Provide premier customer service, including greeting customers warmly, answering questions, and assisting with selections.
• Cutting & Preparation (Meat Cutter Duties): Skillfully cut and prepare all varieties and cuts of meat while operating tools safely (Journeyman) or assisting with preparation and learning the trade under supervision (Apprentice).
• Merchandising & Presentation: Wrap, weigh, label, and accurately price cuts of meat. Maintain, fill, and rotate product in the meat cases to ensure maximum freshness and visual appeal.
• Operational Support: Assist in verifying and unloading meat deliveries from trucks. Maintain cleanliness of the entire meat department, including equipment and coolers, adhering to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Learning & Development: Actively participate in training programs to master the skills required for meat cutting, product knowledge, and efficient department operations.

Qualifications

To be a Meat Cutter Apprentice / Journeyman at Pellicano's, you should have the following qualifications:

• Experience: Previous experience in a meat department or food service environment is a strong plus, but we are willing to train highly motivated apprentices. Journeymen applicants must have documented cutting experience.
• Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Work Ethic: Reliable, dependable, and eager to learn a highly skilled trade.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication skills and an outgoing, friendly demeanor toward customers and staff.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates (including weekends, evenings, and some holidays). Must be able to lift/carry products as needed (up to 70 lbs).
• Tools: Good vision and focus are required for safely using all cutting tools and equipment.
