Job Description

Associate Underwriter – S&S Excess Transportation  - remote

The Associate Underwriter works closely with his/her manager and underwriters to provide excess transportation underwriting support within the standards and time frames in adherence to specific guidelines and procedures within the S&S Transportation division.  

Department:  Surplus & Specialty

Primary Location:  Remote

Duties and Assignments:

  • Assist the underwriting team to evaluate and triage new business against strategy and guidelines as needed within assigned team.
  • Handle binders as needed and assigned within team. 
  • Build skills to make underwriting decisions and maintain proper file documentation.
  • Assist with endorsement processing and all accounting issues as they are needed.
  • Assist with pricing needs and/or quote proposals, under direction and as needed, within the assigned underwriting team.   
  • May pursue industry designations via coursework completed during on-the-job training.
  • May participate in projects.
  • Proactively acquires knowledge and skill.
  • Minimal travel may be required
  • Other assigned duties.

Recommended Education and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, along with 1+ year of Property & Casualty experience.
  • Pursuing insurance industry designations such as AINS, CPCU, CRIS, etc. a plus.
  • Possesses strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Self directed
  • Ability to work autonomously in a remote work environment
  • Proficient computer skills and use of Microsoft Office Program (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
