Our Surgery team is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant. This role is essential for supporting our hospital's commitment to exceptional patient care and our internal culture of teamwork, engagement, and employee ownership.
Veterinary Assistants at Timberline work closely with Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Veterinarians, and other team members to deliver exceptional patient care for our patients. They contribute to a positive hospital environment by providing patient medical care, partnering with clients, and helping to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming facility.
As part of our Surgery department, you will play a key role in preparing patients for surgery, assisting in anesthesia and surgical procedures, gathering diagnostics, and supporting patients through recovery and follow-up care. You'll also partner with our client care team when needed to help welcome patients, answer questions, and ensure a smooth client experience. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, values patient advocacy, and wants to grow their skills in a specialty setting.
Essential Job Duties:
- Perform treatments and administer medications as directed by the surgeon.
- Complete pre-exams and gather brief medical histories for incoming patients.
- Assist in surgical procedures, including scrubbing in when appropriate.
- Prepare treatment sheets; round patients to ICU staff.
- Obtain diagnostics, perform laboratory tests, and take radiographs.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of surgery suites, prep areas, and all related equipment (surgical packs, monitors, anesthesia machines, orthopedic tools, etc.).
- Participate in follow-up care, including bandage changes, rechecks, bloodwork, radiographs, and client communication/documentation.
- Communicate with clients about patient status, treatment plans, and post-operative care as directed by the surgeon.
- Retrieve and respond to voicemail messages.
- Assist client care representatives with patient triage and questions.
- Enter and double-check charges for exams, diagnostics, procedures, post-op care, and medications.
- Fill prescriptions accurately and efficiently.
- Participate in mandatory staff and technician/assistant meetings.
- Support and model the TVES PEAK Principles.
Experience and Qualification Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable interacting with clients and creating a positive experience.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Positive attitude, cooperative work style and growth mindset.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Compassion, empathy, and professionalism in all interactions.
- Able to pass the Washington Veterinary Medical Clerk license within 60 days of hire.
- Basic computer and scheduling software proficiency.
Schedule, Compensation, and Benefits:
- As an emergency and specialty hospital, all team members participate in a fair rotation of holidays.
- Hourly compensation is based on experience and skill level ($22–$30/hr).
