Job Overview
The Program Associate supports FreeState Justice's Resource Department by assisting with client intake, advocacy support, program delivery, research, and reporting. This role works under supervision to help connect LGBTQ+ Marylanders to legal, social service, and survivor-centered resources while supporting outreach, education, and internal data tracking. The Program Associate plays a key role in strengthening FreeState Justice's service delivery and community engagement work.
This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling based on program needs, outreach activity, and client demand.
Duties
- Client Intake, Support, and Case Coordination – 35%
- Assist with client intake, follow-up, and documentation.
- Support intake assessments and the identification of client needs.
- Connect clients with legal, social service, and survivor support resources.
- Track referrals and follow through under supervision.
- Maintain accurate, confidential client records in the client tracking system.
Advocacy and Case Support – 20%
- Assist in preparing advocacy documents, letters, and referrals.
- Help with documentation related to housing, employment, benefits, safety, and survivor support.
- Participate in case planning and advocacy strategy meetings as needed.
- Track client progress and outcomes in line with program objectives.
Program Development, Outreach, and Education – 20%
- Support the planning and execution of outreach events, workshops, and trainings.
- Assist with community education programs such as Know Your Rights, Community Health Access Workshops, and LGBTQ in the Workplace.
- Prepare materials and help with event logistics.
- Coordinate communication with partners and participants.
- Attend occasional evening or weekend events as needed.
Research, Policy, and Resource Development – 15%
- Research local and national issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities.
- Support the development and updating of internal and public-facing resource guides. Assist with creating educational materials, policy fact sheets, and lists of community resources.
- Monitor emerging trends and identify gaps affecting service access.
Administrative Support, Data Tracking, and Reporting – 10%
- Provide general administrative support to the Resource Department.
- Complete data entry, file management, and digital organization. Keep a continuous record of clients served and services delivered.
- Prepare draft monthly reports for the board summarizing service data and program activities for supervisor review.
- Assist with internal communications and meeting preparations.
Requirements

Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Strong organizational skills and reliability
Comfortable working in both virtual and in-person environments
Reliable transportation for outreach, events, or client support
Preferred Experience
Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, social services, or community-based work. Familiarity with LGBTQ+ legal, social service, or survivor support systems. Experience with client tracking or data entry systems.
Schedule and Hours
Part-time position with flexible hours
Average commitment of 15 to 20 hours per week
Hours may vary depending on outreach events, client needs, and program priorities
Desired Impact
The Program Associate will gain hands-on experience in advocacy, intake, outreach, research, and program coordination. This role prepares individuals for future work in social services, survivor support, policy, nonprofit leadership, or community advocacy while enhancing FreeState Justice's ability to serve LGBTQ+ Marylanders.
Training and Intake Process
The Program Associate will receive training on FreeState Justice's intake protocols, documentation standards, confidentiality requirements, and data integrity practices. All client information is entered into a secure tracking system and reviewed under supervision.
Pay: $26.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 20.0 per week
