Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a variety of treatment procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection control protocols.
- Operate dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging devices while maintaining proper safety standards.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring high-quality images for accurate diagnosis.
- Manage patient records using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, accurately documenting treatment details, medical history, vital signs, and medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support patient care by taking vital signs, reviewing medical histories, and explaining procedures clearly to foster trust and comfort.
- Maintain a sterile environment through aseptic techniques and infection control practices to safeguard patient health.
- Collaborate with the dental team in four-handed dentistry practices to enhance efficiency during procedures.
- Assist with dental terminology explanations for patients and ensure clear communication throughout treatment processes.
- Support the front desk team as needed by performing duties typical of a dental receptionist, including scheduling appointments and managing patient flow.
- Keep the clinical area organized, stocked with supplies, and ready for daily operations to maximize productivity.
- Uphold confidentiality standards related to medical records and adhere to all regulatory requirements related to HIPAA compliance.
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic setting with familiarity in general dentistry procedures.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with Epic is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, aseptic technique, anatomy knowledge, infection control, and dental terminology.
- Ability to operate X-ray equipment safely and effectively; certification in radiography preferred.
- Experience with medical imaging devices such as 3D scanners is advantageous.
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices is highly desirable for working with young patients.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations concerning medical documentation and records management.
- Excellent communication skills to explain procedures clearly and compassionately to patients of all ages.
- Ability to work efficiently within a team environment practicing four-handed dentistry for optimal patient care.
