Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Retail Assistant Manager to oversee daily store operations and support the management team. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with a proven track record in retail management. This role involves supervising staff, managing inventory, ensuring excellent customer service, and contributing to sales growth. The Retail Assistant Manager will play a key role in maintaining store efficiency, implementing merchandising strategies, and fostering a positive shopping environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in managing daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures
- Supervise and motivate retail staff to achieve sales targets and deliver exceptional customer service
- Oversee employee orientation, training & development, and performance evaluations
- Manage inventory control, stock replenishment, and merchandising to optimize sales opportunities
- Handle POS transactions, cash handling, pricing adjustments, and store bookkeeping
- Support recruiting efforts by interviewing candidates and participating in hiring decisions
- Coordinate purchasing activities and manage supplier relationships for inventory procurement
- Implement marketing initiatives and promotional campaigns to increase store visibility
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and customer service protocols
- Utilize management skills such as budgeting, sales management, and shift management to maximize store performance
- Maintain effective communication with team members and upper management to ensure smooth operations
Qualifications
- Proven experience in retail management or assistant manager roles within a grocery store or similar retail environment
- Strong leadership skills with previous supervisory or team management experience
- Excellent communication skills; bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus
- Proficiency in retail math, POS systems, inventory management software, and cash handling procedures
- Demonstrated ability to handle negotiation, purchasing, merchandising, and marketing tasks
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently
- Experience in employee recruitment, training & development, payroll processing, and administrative tasks
- Customer service-oriented mindset with exceptional phone etiquette and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and time management skills
- Knowledge of retail sales strategies, pricing techniques, stock control, and store operations
