Position Overview
As an Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our canopy structures are priced accurately, competitively, and profitably. You'll review construction documents and blueprints, communicate with customers and vendors, and collaborate across departments to produce timely and consistent estimates. You'll be the go-to liaison for translating complex project requirements into clear, data-driven proposals—while helping Jimco maintain its industry reputation for excellence and dependability.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment and who can juggle multiple projects without sacrificing follow-through or quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural blueprints and construction documents to scope and price fuel canopy projects across the U.S.
- Identify material types, specifications, and variations between versions of construction plans.
- Create accurate, location-specific estimates that reflect regional requirements (e.g., seismic, wind load, code compliance).
- Maintain consistent pricing methodologies using Microsoft Excel and Access.
- Coordinate closely with Engineering to relay structural requirements and project specs.
- Communicate with Purchasing to gather accurate material pricing and vendor quotes.
- Serve as a liaison between customers and internal departments (Contracts, Scheduling, Engineering, Purchasing).
- Respond to quote requests from new and existing clients—gathering all required documentation and asking clarifying questions.
- Build strong rapport with architects, general contractors, and project managers through effective phone and email communication.
- Stay organized and persistent in following up on project needs and client communication.
Skills & Experience
Required:
- 2–5+ years in construction estimating or related field (fuel canopies, metal structures, or light commercial a plus)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and construction documents
- High attention to detail with the ability to spot inconsistencies between document versions
- Proven organizational skills and ability to manage multiple high-volume projects
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with Microsoft Access and Adobe Acrobat
