Overview

We are seeking an innovative Lead Application Developer to spearhead development for the next generation of wearable and connected smart devices — including smartwatches, smart glasses, and emerging sensor technologies. This is a project-based leadership role for our pilot initiative focused on creating intelligent, responsive software that enhances communication between individuals with mental health or cognitive challenges and First Responders.

Role Summary

As the Lead Application Developer, you'll design, build, and deploy applications that run on smartwatches, wearable sensors, and next-generation smart devices. You will lead the development of software solutions that leverage real-time data, cloud connectivity, and device interoperability to create intelligent, human-centered technology experiences. This position offers an opportunity to shape how wearable tech is used to enhance safety and care through innovation and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

·       Lead all phases of the software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment.

·       Design and develop smartwatch and wearable applications with integrated cloud and device communication.

·       Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create seamless, intuitive interfaces for small and emerging form factors.

·       Integrate with sensors, geolocation, and device-to-device communication technologies (e.g., Bluetooth, NFC, GPS).

·       Develop scalable cloud-based services that support device data synchronization and analytics.

·       Implement best practices in performance optimization, battery efficiency, and data security for wearable devices.

·       Mentor and guide developers, fostering creativity, collaboration, and technical excellence.

·       Stay current with emerging smart device platforms (Google Wear OS, Apple WatchOS, Google Glass, and others) to ensure AWT remains on the cutting edge of innovation.

Requirements

·       Proven experience as a lead or senior developer in software development for mobile and wearable platforms.

·       Hands-on experience develop of smartwatch OSs (Wear OS, watchOS) and integrating with mobile ecosystems.

·       Familiarity with emerging smart device APIs such as those for smart glasses or Bluetooth-based trackers.

·       Strong background in cloud services (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).

·       Proficiency in programming languages like Swift, Kotlin, JavaScript/TypeScript, or React Native.

·       Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and real-time data synchronization.

·       Knowledge of Bluetooth, GPS, and IoT communication protocols.

·       Understanding of security and privacy best practices for connected devices.

·       Excellent problem-solving and communication skills with a focus on quality and scalability.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

·       Certification in wearable or mobile application development.

·       Experience integrating AI/ML features for predictive insights or behavioral analytics.

·       Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and DevOps tools for CI/CD.

·       Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments.

·       Personal connection to people with mental health or communication challenges, such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Bi-polar Disorder, Epilepsy, Hearing Impairment, PTSD, or Schizophrenia
