Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer

About The Role
We are seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to help shape the future of intelligent search and discovery within a fast-growing marketplace platform. This role blends deep technical expertise with leadership, giving you the chance to design, build, and scale machine learning solutions that directly impact millions of users. You'll lead by example—contributing to the development of models and systems while mentoring engineers and influencing product strategy. If you're motivated by building technology that improves real-world experiences, this opportunity is for you.

Why This Role Matters

As part of the core Search and Machine Learning team, you'll be responsible for advancing the accuracy, scalability, and performance of algorithms that power essential discovery workflows. Your work will ensure users quickly find the services they need while driving measurable value for partners. By balancing technical execution with mentoring, you'll elevate both the platform and the engineering culture around you.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and optimize search algorithms and ML models that improve relevance, personalization, and user experience.
  • Introduce and champion best practices in ML Ops, CI/CD, and model lifecycle management to ensure systems are scalable, resilient, and easy to maintain.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to integrate new features and unlock impactful improvements.
  • Write and ship high-quality, efficient code that supports millions of user interactions.
  • Mentor peers and guide technical discussions, raising standards for engineering excellence and model deployment.
  • Explore and apply the latest advances in GenAI and related technologies to push the boundaries of what's possible in consumer-facing search experiences.
  • Continuously monitor performance metrics, experiment with new approaches, and iterate to deliver meaningful improvements for end users.

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of experience building and deploying large-scale machine learning systems in production environments.
  • Deep knowledge of ML techniques and their application to search, recommendation, or personalization problems.
  • Strong understanding of experiment design and the tradeoffs in consumer-facing product environments.
  • Hands-on expertise in programming with languages such as Scala, Python, Spark, , or similar—language agnostic mindset preferred.
  • Experience with big data platforms, distributed systems, and cloud-based ML workflows (Databricks, AWS, or similar).
  • Track record of designing, shipping, and maintaining applications that scale to millions of users.
  • Proven ability to mentor and influence engineering peers, encouraging best practices in testing, deployment, and model reliability.
  • A degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred but not required.

What Sets You Apart

  • Passion for building ML-driven products that improve real-world outcomes.
  • Strong balance of technical depth and product intuition, with the ability to think critically about performance, scalability, and user experience.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where innovation and execution go hand in hand.
  • Experience partnering with data teams and contributing to the design of data platforms that support advanced ML workflows.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary aligned with market benchmarks: $211,000 – $317,000 USD (depending on experience and qualifications).
  • Eligibility for performance-based bonuses and/or equity opportunities.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Generous vacation and leave policies, including parental and family planning support.
  • 401(k) with employer match and commuter benefits.
  • Wellness initiatives, including partnerships with fitness and mindfulness platforms.
  • Professional development opportunities and sabbatical leave for long-tenured employees.

This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of applied machine learning in a domain that impacts millions of lives. If you're driven by solving complex technical challenges while mentoring others and shaping a product that makes a tangible difference, we'd love to connect with you.
