The Role

At The Carpenter Hotel, the Pastry Cook is responsible for preparing, baking, and finishing a wide range of pastry and dessert products for the hotel's food & beverage outlets—including restaurants, in-room dining, coffee bars, and special events. The role supports guest satisfaction by delivering consistent quality, presentation, and timely production of sweet items and baked goods.You'll also take part in maintaining appositive and collaborative atmosphere within the culinary team, supporting one another to deliver the high standards The Carpenter Hotel is known for.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare mise en place for the pastry station: gather ingredients, measure, weigh, organize tools and equipment.
  • Produce baked goods and desserts such as breads/rolls, croissants or laminated doughs, Danish, cookies, pastries, tarts, custards, puddings, cakes, icings/fondants according to recipes and hotel standards.
  • Decorate and finish plated desserts and dessert buffet presentations, ensuring consistency in portion, quality and visual appeal.
  • Monitor ingredient usage and par stocks for the pastry station; assist in requisitioning supplies and managing inventory, rotating stocks appropriately.
  • Ensure sanitation, cleanliness, and safety standards are upheld in the pastry area: clean workstations, maintain equipment, follow food safety protocols (including storage, rotation, labeling) and manage proper utilization of ingredients.
  • Collaborate with kitchen and banquet teams to support special events, high-volume services and multiple outlets as required (e.g., breakfast pastries, dessert buffets, weddings).
  • Assist in shift hand-over, station clean‐up, and closing procedures. Be flexible to work early mornings, evenings, weekends or holidays as needed by hotel operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Pastry Chef or Kitchen Management

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Previous experience in pastry/bakery or food-service environment.
  • Food handler certification or similar local food safety qualification.
  • Working knowledge of pastry techniques including baking, mixing, dough work, finishing/decoration.
  • Ability to follow recipes, maintain consistency, handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, multitask and maintain high standards during service.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
