Job Overview
The Operations Manager will oversee all aspects of production and procurement in our growing machining shop. This includes managing production schedules, inventory, purchasing, supply and demand planning, quality control, and team performance. Interacting with key customers/suppliers and implementing new manufacturing processes. In this early stage, the Operations Manager will also be required to perform tasks at all levels of the production process (machining, assembly, inspection, etc.) until additional team members are recruited to fill these roles. This position requires a versatile, self-driven leader who can balance hands-on production work with strategic oversight.
Responsibilities:
1. Production Management:
- Develop, implement, and monitor production schedules to meet customer demand while maximizing shop efficiency.
- Ensure the production process runs smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Supervise and direct the daily activities of production staff, including machinists, assembly technicians, and quality control inspectors.
- Monitor inventory levels and demand forecasts and procure materials and supplies accordingly to ensure demand is met on-time.
- Coordinate production receipt of purchase orders, manufacturing, packaging, shipping and invoicing of production to meet production quality and schedules.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop floor, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
2. Team Leadership & Development
- Create a culture of continuous improvement by identifying areas for operational enhancements and cost reductions.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting open communication and teamwork.
- Step in to perform hands-on work in machining, assembly, or inspection as needed to ensure production goals are met while positions are being filled.
- Oversee setup, operation, and maintenance tasks of machinery (CNC, CMM, Waterjet, etc.).
3. Quality Assurance
- Establish and enforce quality control standards across all stages of production.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues that arise during the manufacturing process.
- Ensure compliance with customer and industry regulations and safety protocols.
4. Reporting & Documentation
- Track production metrics (output, cycle time, downtime, etc.) and report regularly to leadership.
- Maintain accurate records of production data, maintenance schedules, and inventory.
5. Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Identify production bottlenecks or inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Stay up to date with the latest manufacturing technologies, tools, and techniques to improve production workflows.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, equipment, and material handling.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to perform tasks at all levels of the production process when needed.
- Ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Safety-conscious with a thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with CAD/CAM/CMM software and ERP systems.
- Previous start-up or small business experience.
- Experience operating manufacturing equipment and a forklift
Education & Experience:
- Proven experience (5+ years) in operations management within a manufacturing or machine shop environment, preferably at a start-up or fast-growing company.
- Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.

- Manufacturing Facility and machine shop
- Exposure to noise, lubricants, coolants, and moving machinery
- Shift Expectations- 4/10 work schedule, 10 hour shifts Monday-Thursday
