Mechanic Foreman
The Town of Westerly Department of Public Works – Highway is looking to fill the position of Mechanic Foreman. Under the general direction of the Manager of Highway, the Mechanic Foreman will order all necessary parts and equipment for the Mechanics in the garage and perform preventative/corrective maintenance to equipment and motor vehicles.
Position Overview:
· Supervises employees assigned to the Fleet Maintenance Division.
· Coordinates/schedules preventive maintenance/repairs for all municipal vehicles, equipment and tools.
· Performs and/or supervises preventive maintenance, general overhaul and repairs of automobiles, buses, passenger vans, light, medium and heavy trucks, road construction equipment, skid steers, utility tractors, snow removal equipment, commercial mowers and other mechanical equipment.
· Prepares/maintains records and/or reports for all maintenance work completed on a regular basis.
· Performs/supervises problem diagnosis/repair of all municipal vehicles, equipment and power tools.
· Performs and/or supervises problem diagnosis and repairs of vehicle and equipment systems and components including but not limited to brakes, transmissions, rear-ends, clutches, etc.
· Performs and/or supervises inspection, adjustments and replacement of necessary units and related parts including valves, pistons, bearing assemblies, cooling, fuel and exhaust systems.
· Establishes and maintains the required inventory of parts, tools and supplies.
· Performs and/or supervise emergency service calls during regular workdays, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
· Drives snowplow trucks/sanders operates the necessary equipment related to all town work.

Qualifications & Experience:
· High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
· Minimum of five (5) years' experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair preferably in municipal or commercial fleet operations.
· Basic computer skills and ability to learn and master computerized reference systems and updates.
· Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position.
Licenses and Certifications:
· Valid driver's license.
· Class B CDL required.
· Class A CDL preferred.
· Tanker and airbrake endorsement preferred.
· RI Municipal limited hoisting license required or ability to obtain one within one (1) year of hire.
· Certification from the State of RI Motor Vehicle Safety and Emission Control Division as a vehicle inspector or ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of hire.
Salary ranges from $72,800 - $74,880 a year
