Job Summary
Serves as the administrative manager on duty in the absence of senior management; supervises and directs patient care and related activities and provides clinical support to hospital staff. Coordinates staffing of the nursing units, acts as liaison between patient units and other departments, and maintains a positive work environment that promotes the Summit Pacific values.
Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities
*Assumes authority and responsibility for hospital operations on assigned shifts and in the absence of senior management. Serves as a professional resource to patients, families, physicians, and staff. Assists with prioritizing and resolving concerns and interpreting and enforcing hospital policies and standards, as well as ensuring regulatory compliance. Coordinates activities of the nursing and ancillary departments to ensure consistent delivery of quality patient-centered care and efficient operations in support of hospital goals and objectives. Supervises nursing and support staff working in the Emergency Department and the Acute Care Medical Unit. Effectively identifies predictable problems, evaluates all available options and makes appropriate recommendations. Maintains accurate and timely written documentation. Ensures staffing is adequate for provision of quality patient care. Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusting assignments as necessary to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency. Serves as a clinical resource. Responds to patient emergencies, including codes. Assists with meals/breaks coverage. Monitors work performance and provides feedback to appropriate manager regarding personnel actions. Ensures correct patient placement for level of care and status. Seeks authorization for all admissions, utilizes UR tools and communication with Providers for documentation and placement. Oversees trauma, cardiac, and stroke programs: Ensures ongoing compliance with program requirements. Collaborates with the Emergency Services Medical Director, Nurse Manager, and Pharmacy Director to ensure that necessary protocols and order sets are in place and meet program standards. Assists with program applications, performs data collection and monitoring, and initiates education and improvement projects when necessary. May represent SPMC at county/regional meetings. Ensures effective communications between staff and providers through shift reports/hand-offs, huddles, direct conversations, and appropriate follow-up. Escalates issues as needed to senior leadership. Maintains high visibility by making administrative and environmental rounds on the assigned shift. Demonstrates an attitude of cooperation and professionalism and fosters harmonious relationships between staff and providers to ensure patient care and customer service standards are met. Maintains a safe environment; ensures equipment problems or failures are addressed promptly. Coordinates the hospital response to internal and external disasters to ensure continuity of patient care. Participates in the development, implementation and ongoing assessment/validation of nursing protocols, standards of care, and related competency requirements. Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Full time 0.9 FTE, Weekends Day shift , one night shift per week
Organizational Responsibilities
In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above, leaders are expected to support and uphold the Summit Pacific mission, vision and values; comply with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements; and conduct themselves in an ethical, professional, respectful, and collaborative manner.
Required Education and Experience
- Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred.
- Three (3) years of recent nursing experience in the acute care setting with at least 1 year experience in the Emergency Department.
- Two (2) years of experience as a charge nurse/supervisor or one (1) year of management experience.
- Emergency Department experience required; Medical unit department nursing experience preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations
Registered Nurse in the State of Washington. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required within three (3) months of hire.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Advanced knowledge of nursing theories and practices. Demonstrated competence in clinical skills such that he/she is able to perform, evaluate and teach required nursing tasks. Knowledge of hospital administration, nursing services, customer relations, and plant operations. Ability to cultivate effective partnerships and work in collaboration with providers, other health care professionals, caregivers, and patients. Strong leadership, facilitation, delegation, and coaching skills. Proficient in the use of current technology, including Microsoft Office products. Ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical records and other systems and equipment. Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify and employ communication strategies appropriate to the audience. Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records.
Ability to work independently performing a wide variety of assignments that require the use of independent judgment, problem-solving, organization, and prioritization skills.
