About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior UX Designer to join our Digital team at the Docklands campus, operating in a hybrid working environment. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for shaping engaging, accessible, and user‑centred digital experiences across our web and mobile platforms. You will lead UX projects from research and ideation through prototyping, testing, and implementation, ensuring continuous improvement aligned with user needs and business goals. Collaborating closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders, you will advocate for best practices in usability, accessibility, and innovative design. Your expertise will directly impact the university’s digital presence, enhancing the experience for students, staff, and external audiences while supporting the university's strategic objectives of inclusivity and technological excellence.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a degree in UX design, Human‑Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience supported by a strong portfolio. Extensive experience as a UX Designer, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of user research, wire‑framing, prototyping, and usability testing, is essential. Proficiency with UX tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch, along with familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to support front‑end development, is required. The candidate should have experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, managing multiple projects, and applying UX methodologies to influence product development. Strong communication skills, the ability to present and articulate design rationale confidently, and a commitment to accessibility and inclusivity are vital components of the ideal profile.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage UX design projects, including user research, creating prototypes, wireframes, and conducting usability testing to gather insights and validate solutions.
Utilize UX testing tools such as A/B testing, tree testing, card sorting, surveys, and moderated/unmoderated sessions to optimise user experiences.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including developers, product owners, and stakeholders, within Agile/Scrum frameworks to deliver high‑quality digital solutions.
Create and maintain design systems, style guides, and component libraries to ensure consistency and scalability across digital platforms.
Apply knowledge of front‑end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to support development, improve performance, and troubleshoot design implementation issues.
Advocate for accessibility standards and inclusive design principles to ensure digital content is usable by all users.
Stay current with emerging UX trends, tools, and best practices, continuously seeking opportunities to innovate and improve digital experiences.
Present design concepts and research findings to stakeholders, influencing decision‑making and fostering a user‑centred culture within the organization.
