Overview
Obsidian Control Systems is seeking an experienced and driven individual to take on a Lead Product & Technical Product Manager role — unifying the responsibilities of product ownership, technical coordination, and roadmap strategy for our Onyx and related control system products. This position serves as the bridge between software/hardware development, market strategy, and business leadership — ensuring all products deliver exceptional value, reliability, and innovation that align with Obsidian’s long-term vision.
Key Responsibilities
*Product Ownership & Strategy*
* Define and manage the Onyx product roadmap, aligning with the overall business strategy and market objectives.
* Collaborate with the Netron Product Lead and other brand teams to ensure cohesive ecosystem development.
* Create and maintain New Product Sheets (NPS) for all potential new products — outlining user cases, target market, cost-to-list ratio, and competitive analysis.
* Evaluate market trends and competitors, ensuring the product line remains differentiated and forward-thinking.
* Conduct ongoing research to identify gaps and opportunities, bringing fresh ideas for both hardware and software evolution.
Technical Coordination
* Work closely with software and hardware development teams to ensure design, functionality, and performance meet agreed milestones and product specifications.
* Translate customer and sales feedback into clear, actionable development priorities.
* Ensure technical teams follow roadmap timelines, feature implementation goals, and quality standards.
* Oversee internal and external product testing in collaboration with QA and R&D; teams.
* Review product documentation, firmware updates, and release notes to ensure clarity and technical accuracy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Serve as a liaison between R&D;, Marketing, Sales, and Technical Support to ensure consistent messaging and successful product launches.
* Coordinate regularly with the Business Development Director to maintain strategic alignment.
* Facilitate communication between EU and USA teams; availability across both time zones is essential.
* Support factory visits in China and other supplier sites as authorized by the Business Development Director to ensure build quality and performance consistency.
Customer & Market Engagement
* Gather feedback from key users, installers, and partners to continuously refine the product experience.
* Represent the brand professionally at tradeshows, demos, and open houses, acting as both technical expert and product ambassador.
* Deliver internal and external training or feature demonstrations as needed.
Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Computer Science, or Product Management.
* Proven experience managing control systems, lighting consoles, or entertainment technology products.
* Strong understanding of software development cycles, hardware integration, and user interface design.
* Excellent communication skills — capable of translating complex technical concepts into business terms.
* Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and cross-cultural environment.
* Willingness to travel (EU, USA, Asia) as required.
* Fluent in English; additional European languages a plus.
Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Business Development Director (Obsidian Control Systems) with close coordination alongside brand and technical leadership teams. Weekly progress and roadmap review meetings are expected, particularly during the probationary period.
