Our medical clinic in Cook, MN is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join our team of medical providers. This position serve as the primary point of contact for providers and nursing staff while also managing reception duties. The Patient Access Specialist will answer incoming phone calls, ensuring those calls are appropriately routed and disseminated to the correct party. Additionally, the position will handle patient registration, prior authorizations, insurance referrals, desktop management for nursing and reception, assist with autoclave management, and serve as a MNsure Navigator to assist patients with health coverage navigation. Scenic Rivers Health Services (SRHS) embraces the team approach to healthcare. The weekly schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 8am – 4:30 pm, some Saturdays (on a Saturday Rotation) 8:00 am-12:00 pm.
Patient Access Specialist Responsibilities:
Comply with HIPAA requirements and standards to ensure patient confidentiality
Provide high-quality customer support to patients and visitors
Register patients upon arrival and verify demographic and insurance information before appointments to ensure billing accuracy
Complete follow-up phone calls and recalls as directed by providers
Schedule and cancel patient medical appointments both over the phone and in person
Perform patient checkout process, including collecting payments, scheduling follow-up appointments, and providing visit summaries
Assist nursing staff with patient and pharmacy inquiries
Prepare and stock exam rooms and clinic areas with appropriate medical supplies; dispose of medical waste per guidelines
Complete prior authorizations for medications, procedures, or services as directed by providers
Complete insurance referrals as required
Serve as a MNsure Navigator to help patients understand and access health coverage options
Assist in drafting and writing letters as needed
Regularly attend meetings such as staff and quality improvement meetings to take a proactive role in improving patient care and documentation processes
Physical presence in the workplace is an essential function of the job
Perform other duties as assigned

Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Suite
1–3 years in a clinic or hospital setting
EMR/EHR experience preferred
High school diploma required
