About the Position:
The Sample Logistics driver will work independently as well as part of a team to ensure smooth sample pickup from ALS customers, as well as provide shipping/receiving and supply management support within the location, among ALS labs and with third parties. This person will work closely with ALS clients, as well as with sample Login, shipping/receiving and other laboratories in a safe and conscientious manner.
Specific Responsibilities
- Drive ALS vehicle on a regular route to pick up samples from client sites.
- Must be willing to work on Statutory Holidays to complete critical scheduled pickups.
- Must complete client site safety orientation and certification as required.
- Must follow all ALS company and workplace policies
- Observe and comply to ALS health and safety policies, regulations, and procedures which cover guidelines for safe, courteous driving.
- Follow performance and safety expectations identified and set by HSE and monitored by the fleet management company program hired/ used by ALS.
- Perform responsibilities independently with efficient use of time, following safe work procedures.
- Works with the Login and S/R team to receive samples.
- Prepare client bottle orders.
- Communicate (verbally and in writing) with other labs, suppliers and shipping companies.
- Receive supply shipments from couriers.
- Inform lab staff when shipments arrive.
- Maintain inventory control of sample bottles and general lab and shipping supplies.
- Use individual couriers' shipping systems.
- Maintain supply of clean shipping coolers
- Sample archiving and waste disposal, including hazardous waste disposal on occasion (with appropriate training and PPE provided).
- Maintain a neat and clean workspace, including garbage removal and floor cleaning.
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.
- Protect and responsibly use company assets that have been provided to the employee as part of performing job functions and responsibilities (i.e. mobile phone, credit card, gas card, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Good English communication skills (auditory, verbal, written, and reading) as required;
- Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) at an intermediate level;
- Understanding of and commitment to a safe workplace
- Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- A strong, reliable work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;
- A commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent;
- Valid full Provincial drivers licence with clean driving abstract ;
- Experience working in shipping/receiving or a warehouse (asset);
- Customer service experience an asset;
- Forklift training an asset;
- First Aid training an asset.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs./25 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
- Bending, lifting and carrying are all routinely required;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required.
- Ability to stand for up to a full shift;
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
- You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
