Key Responsibilities
Lead the design for the track slab (resilient in-situ and/or standard slab) throughout the design and construction technical life cycles, coordinating with the design and construction teams, the designers, client and stakeholders. Ensure the track slab design complies with the client’s standards and CDM regulations.
Deliver the track slab design for a high-speed contract, including integration of PW and any TW / temporary stages, integration of assurance and management of associated digital deliverables, in line with project programme, cost and client requirements. The track slab scope includes developing resilient in situ and standard slab tracks and coordinating several types of S&C, in coordination with CMS and other rail system elements as well as civil works designs.
Coordinate the Designer and supply chain inputs to achieve an efficient and compliant design for track elements. Manage input from rail specialists, other design disciplines and N&V specialists in their area (in situ and/or standard slab) to ensure compliance with the client’s Environmental Minimum Requirements.
Maintain close liaison with the Designer to ensure on-time, optimized design delivery in accordance with the client’s requirements, working with supply chain, client subject matter experts and other contractors. Contribute to managing associated interfaces.
Attend weekly meetings with the construction team, broader design team and client in Birmingham and/or London.
Attend and chair meetings for track design-related issues during design and construction and provide technical support for mitigation.
Support the client with identifying change, risk and opportunities and strive for efficiencies and cost savings.
Aid in optimization studies and liaise with commercial, planning, design delivery teams and designers.
Support the link and coordination with construction teams for management of track-related issues.
Provide technical input and support to relevant commercial communications (SNCs, NCRs, CEs, Departures, etc.).
Close out track slab issues within the area of responsibility in a timely manner.
Review monitoring reports and certificates. Support delivery of progressive technical assurance during design, construction and handover processes.
Key skills and experience
Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
Chartered IMEC, PWAy Institute or CEng ICE desirable.
Experience relevant to rail track on major construction projects, including design, modelling, or construction support.
A sound understanding of rail design codes.
Knowledge of safety and environmental legislation, impact mitigation and dealing with statutory authorities.
Experience in managing and liaising with third parties and other contractors.
Very good communication skills.
