Our client, an established multi-utilities infrastructure company, is looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer you will lead on LV / HV network, substation and earthing designs across a range of residential, commercial and industrial projects. You’ll take ownership of multiple projects, working closely with clients, DNOs / IDNOs and internal teams to deliver compliant, accurate designs on time and within budget. If you have previous utilities design experience, with an Engineering degree and a strong understanding of electrical network layouts - apply today!
Key Responsibilities
Create LV / HV electrical network designs and earthing assessments for domestic, commercial, and industrial projects - including single line diagrams, wiring layouts, cable schedules, and sizing calculations.
Secure DNO / IDNO design approval for all network and earthing solutions.
Ensure designs are accurate, delivered on time and within budget.
Work closely with Utility Infrastructure Providers and DNOs / IDNOs.
Provide specialist advice on electrical networks and substations to project stakeholders.
Stay up to date with industry developments and help shape the department’s design strategy.
Attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders, offering strong technical support.
Ensure all designs meet client requirements and comply with company standards, DNO / IDNO policies, ENA documentation, CDM regulations, Codes of Practice, national / international legislation, and safety guidelines.
Skills and Experience Required
5 years’ experience designing LV / HV (11kV / 33kV) networks, substations and earthing systems.
Degree / HND (or equivalent) in Engineering, ideally with Incorporated Engineer status.
Strong technical understanding of UK power industry standards — including DNO / IDNO construction requirements, G81 documentation, NERS compliance, CDM Regulations, N.R.S.W.A. and ISO 9001 / 14001 / 18001.
Confident using WinDEBUT / VisNet and AutoCAD.
Knowledge of equipment specifications (cables, substations, plant).
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects.
Excellent communicator — able to build strong client relationships, provide clear project updates and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
