Role Overview Welcome to Hastings Direct – a digital insurance provider aiming to become the UK market leader. We have invested heavily in technology, pricing, data and analytics, and your role will help build a market‑leading pricing technology platform that delivers commercial value to the business.
We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist who wants to push the boundaries of innovation in the insurance industry. The Senior Data Scientist will develop cutting‑edge data assets and predictive models that feed into Hastings’ pricing activities, collaborate with Data Scientists, Modellers, and Analysts, and champion alternative risk analysis and market pricing approaches.
Key Responsibilities
Create and maintain analytical tools to support risk portfolio management.
Develop best‑in‑class models to predict claims outcomes, fraud and other risk KPIs.
Engineer innovative rating factors for deployment into our rating algorithms.
Identify, analyse and monetise new data sources.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven track record of delivering ML projects from EDA to deployment, post‑deployment evaluation and model refreshing.
Experience liaising with multiple stakeholders to frame problems and build solutions with commercial outcomes.
Interest in emerging ML techniques and their commercial value.
Proficiency in Python, SQL, Azure ML, Git, Azure Cloud Services.
Ability to work cross‑functionally with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Actuaries and Pricing Analysts.
