Overview We are a fast‑growing Series A startup building cutting‑edge technology to revolutionise cloud development processes and support highly efficient dev & test feedback loops. We’ve closed our last $25 million round in Q4 2024, led by Notable Capital, CRV and Heavybit.
At its core, LocalStack provides a high‑fidelity emulator and local cloud development platform. Imagine developing cloud applications and data pipelines entirely on your local machine within a lightweight cloud sandbox, running in Docker!
Our
mission
is to empower developers to rapidly build and test their cloud applications, allowing for a more enjoyable dev experience, and saving valuable time and resources.
LocalStack has a large and active open‑source community (57k+ stars on GitHub) with over 100k active users worldwide and 290M+ downloads to date. Our customer base ranges from SMBs to Global Fortune 500 companies.
We are sustainably growing our globally distributed team across sectors. LocalStack is headquartered in Zurich/Switzerland , with a main engineering office in Vienna/Austria
and remote team members from the US, FR, UK, CA, ES, and many more countries.
Role Overview This is the right opportunity for a person who wants to help create a coherent, scalable and reliable data platform, driving implementation of the strategic roadmap and representing the data team to the whole organisation at the technical level.
Responsibilities
Create and drive adoption of a coherent, scalable data platform architecture that supports high‑volume events, relational analytics, and user‑persona‑aligned design.
Introduce and champion modelling, lineage, quality, and operational practices that make data reliable, observable, and easy for different personas to use, resulting in fewer incidents and clearer cost transparency.
Establish and evolve operational reliability patterns: SLOs, debugging flows, efficiency improvements, that measurably increase resilience and reduce operational load.
Increase self‑serve adoption and reduce onboarding time and dependence on the platform team by shaping platform interfaces, semantics, and user experiences.
Define the process for build‑buy decisions, designing an effective tooling stack, communicating and defending these decisions to the relevant stakeholders.
Work collaboratively with other stakeholders outside the data team to influence decision making and overall roadmap.
Drive implementation of the data strategy, aligning teams on the technical roadmap: decisions are understood, trade‑offs are accepted, and ambiguity is reduced through clear communication and narrative.
Define processes how the data team collaborates with other teams in LocalStack, reducing cross‑team friction.
Qualifications
Proficient in Python, SQL, and AWS data services (S3, Glue, EMR, ECS, Lambda).
Experience designing hybrid data platforms (streaming, batch, warehouse/lakehouse).
Strong data modelling skills, including semantics, lineage, cataloguing, and metadata management.
Familiar with orchestration patterns and full data lifecycle design.
Experience with BI and orchestration tools supporting analytics and platform workflows.
Experience leading architectural decisions across modelling and ingestion.
Experience mentoring data engineers, levelling up the technical capabilities in the team.
Experience in working remotely or in async settings (preferred).
Values
Care: we create with compassion, prioritising empathy and understanding in every interaction.
Ownership: we own the outcome, taking responsibility for our work and fostering autonomy.
Openness: we build trust together, sharing ideas and embracing diverse perspectives.
Courage: we dare to innovate, embracing bold challenges and taking calculated risks.
