The River and Rail is an award-winning Southern New American restaurant known for thoughtful sourcing, Appalachian influences, and a culture of excellence. We are seeking an Executive Sous Chef to help lead our kitchen team and support the continued growth of our culinary program.

Position Summary
The Executive Sous Chef oversees daily kitchen operations, leads and mentors the BOH team, supports menu development, and ensures consistent execution of all dishes. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, a solid culinary foundation, and experience in elevated scratch kitchens.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead, train, and support the BOH team
• Maintain high standards of flavor, consistency, and presentation
• Assist with menu development and seasonal changes
• Manage ordering, inventory, and vendor relationships
• Support food and labor cost targets
• Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen
• Oversee prep systems, station readiness, and service flow
• Collaborate with FOH management to ensure excellent guest experiences
• Participate in tastings, meetings, and culinary events

Qualifications
• 3 to 5 years in a Sous Chef, CDC, or equivalent leadership role
• Strong cooking fundamentals and experience with seasonal menus
• Proven team leadership and communication skills
• Ability to manage costs, ordering, prep systems, and scheduling
• Professionalism, organization, and a positive kitchen presence
