role at
Grafana Labs .
Grafana Labs is a remote‑first, open‑source powerhouse with over 20M users worldwide. Our dashboards appear from NASA launches to Minecraft HQs, and we support more than 3,000 companies—including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay—through the Grafana LGTM Stack (Grafana Mimir, Loki, Tempo). We are growing fast while staying true to our open‑source heritage, global collaboration, and passion for meaningful work.
Opportunity As a Mimir Engineer you’ll join one of two sub‑squads, Ingest or Query, maintaining the open‑source Grafana Mimir OSS project and operating Grafana Cloud Metrics across three major cloud providers. This role offers a chance to work on large‑scale, high‑performance distributed systems where efficiency, resilience, and reliability are essential to keeping our metrics offerings competitive and smooth at massive volumes.
Mimir engineers collaborate on cross‑team projects, design and review PRs and design documents, guide automated release rollouts, and participate in on‑call rotations. Your work will shape, optimize, and scale one of the industry’s most advanced metrics platforms.
What You’ll Be Doing
Take an active role in influencing our roadmap and your own career objectives
Work with your team to deliver new features, then use the results to iterate and improve
Drive projects from initial idea to operation once it is in the hands of customers
Embrace our open‑source culture and contribute to side projects that may not be in your team’s scope
Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning reliability, performance, and availability
Participate in follow‑the‑sun on‑call rotations and take ownership of the services you run
Support other team members, participate in design discussions, and collaborate with the team
Learn new skills by deepening your knowledge of our cloud product and a large distributed codebase
What Makes You a Great Fit
Pragmatism: You can take on complex challenges and break them down for short feedback loops, delivering MVPs and iterating from data and feedback
Collaboration & communication: You work effectively in a fully remote squad and communicate clearly
Solid experience with at least one programming language (Go preferred; Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar are also welcome)
Experience delivering projects from requirements to shipping a product to customers in a self‑driven way
Experience with cloud software or systems engineering
Experience with on‑call and DevOps practices
Writing clean, robust, performance‑oriented software that others can maintain
Familiarity with observability systems—to know when to use metrics, logs, traces for debugging
Bonus Points For
Experience working with Kubernetes
Experience with queue systems such as Kafka
Been a user of Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles (including on‑call)
Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems
Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code concepts
