Senior Associate Director HV Cable System Design Engineer Jacobs is seeking an experienced Principal Cable System Engineer to support high‑profile projects across our Power & Energy portfolio, including high voltage AIS and GIS substations, transmission assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.
Responsibilities
Lead the design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400kV from tendering through to handover.
Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications, concept/detailed design, design reviews, estimation, site supervision and support.
Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions; attend and conduct internal and external meetings with clients and subcontractors.
Perform technical calculations including cable sizing, rating, TMF, EMF, sheath induced voltage and other calculations.
Perform design reviews and verification of design.
Ensure all project designs comply with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
Assist with temporary works design schemes.
Maintain good working relations with client, designer, team and supply chain.
Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate construction information; formally request missing information in sufficient time.
Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as required by PMP/Specification, including dimension accuracy and quality checks.
Support factory inspections (FAT).
Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with SHQE.
Advise engineers on setting‑out methods and techniques.
Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.
Qualifications
Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
Extensive experience in a cable‑related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
Ability to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
Experienced user of CYMCAP for cable system design.
Experience working at EHV transmission voltages.
Experience designing HV and EHV cable systems for both HVAC and HVDC systems.
Familiarity with National Grid and DNO standards and processes.
