About The Role
We are seeking a dedicated Mid‑Level DevOps Engineer to join our Technical Solutions Team at Halliburton. This role is pivotal in implementing and maintaining the delivery platform across our Neftex subsurface evaluation product portfolio. The ideal candidate will be self‑motivated, enthusiastic, and possess a passion for building scalable, reliable, and innovative cloud‑based solutions. As part of our team, you will collaborate closely with application developers and other stakeholders to design, develop, and optimize infrastructure and automation processes that support our core operations. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, utilizing the latest cloud technologies to drive efficiency and operational excellence. The role is based at our office in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and involves engaging in a variety of DevOps activities that are critical to our technological advancements and service delivery.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background and practical experience in cloud computing and DevOps practices. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, along with at least two years of experience in building and maintaining distributed systems within cloud environments. Proficiency in at least one major public cloud platform such as AWS or Azure is essential, complemented by hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in CI/CD pipelines, scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell, and familiarity with networking principles including firewalls, VPCs, and security groups. Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools like CloudWatch, Prometheus, or Grafana is also required. Strong problem‑solving skills, adaptability in fast‑paced environments, and effective communication abilities are critical for success in this role. Preferred qualifications include experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, familiarity with cloud‑native design patterns, and knowledge of GitOps workflows. Additional skills in configuration management tools like Ansible, comprehensive understanding of cloud security best practices, and experience working within Agile teams using Scrum or Kanban methodologies will be advantageous. Candidates comfortable working in distributed teams and familiar with compliance standards such as SOC2 are highly desirable.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure to support our applications. Develop, manage, and optimize CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes, ensuring continuous delivery and integration. Create and maintain automation scripts for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment activities. Develop operational tooling and scripts to streamline monitoring, logging, backups, and incident response procedures. Collaborate with software engineers to ensure seamless integration between application code and infrastructure components. Monitor system performance, availability, and reliability using appropriate tools, and proactively address issues to minimize downtime. Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, deployment, and operational issues across various environments. Implement and enforce cloud security policies, including IAM, network security, data encryption, and compliance standards. Maintain and improve Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts and templates to ensure consistency and repeatability. Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives, contributing to continuous improvement. Document infrastructure architecture, operational procedures, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and compliance. Stay updated with emerging cloud technologies, automation frameworks, and DevOps trends, and proactively recommend enhancements to existing processes.
