Description

The Department of Cell Biology & Anatomy in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Junior Lab Specialist / Advisor. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 3 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assemble data and prepare periodic and special reports, manuals, and correspondence
  • Assist the Principal Investigator and the research team by providing analytical support, including preparation of reports and presentations
  • Involved in a variety of analyses using different software and techniques, as required by the research team and Principal Investigator
  • Support onboarding, training, and safety orientation for new lab members
  • Assist in managing day-to-day lab operations and research workflow coordination
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain Animal Use Protocols (AUPs) and amendments
  • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for surgery, behavioral testing, biosafety, and lab workflows
  • Assist as Biosafety Officer for the lab, ensuring compliance and training completion of staff / students
  • Coordinate ordering, inventory, and vendor communication for specialized supplies and equipment
  • Assist in creating ethics and regulatory documentation for upcoming research aims
    Assist in onboarding and training support for new lab members (procedures, safety, documentation)

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • PhD in Neuroscience
  • 5 years experience working in a lab environment required
  • Research Program & Network Coordination experience required
  • Team Leadership experience required
  • Budgeting & Grant Management knowledge required
  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Ethics & Governance knowledge an asset
  • Scientific Communication & Reporting experience required
  • Strategic Planning & Project Oversight an asset
  • Community Engagement knowledge and experience an asset
  • Research Ethics & Clinical Trials Training experience required
  • Statistical Analysis | SPSS, GraphPad, Excel advanced knowledge required
  • Familiarity with University grant applications, policies and procedures required
  • Student mentorship experience an asset
  • Knowledge in behavioral testing and data collection required
