Performs of variety of duties such as portioning, serving and transporting meals, washing and peeling fruits and vegetables, preparing food items and washing dishes and utensils.
Responsibilities
- Sets up tray line and meal trays with items such as condiments, utensils and napkins; portions out food and beverages on the meal trays as per menu slips; loads, delivers, collects and unloads meal service wagons.
- Counts, weighs and/or measures ingredients for assigned food preparation area.
- Makes beverages and food items such as tea, coffee and toast; assembles items such as sandwiches and salads.
- Washes, peels and stores fruits and vegetables.
- Strips, racks and washes items such as dishes, pots, pans and utensils; operating dishwashing machine and/or pot washing machines; stacks clean dishes and utensils.
- Loads food carts; delivers and picks up meal trays on assigned wards.
- Performs cleaning duties such as sweeping and damp mopping floors, cleaning counter tops, sinks, machines and equipment; spot washes walls and splash areas, removes garbage as required.
- Performs clerical duties such as answering the phone, filing, writing information on menu cards and checking cards against lists.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Current Food Safe or equivalent certificate.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal effectively with others.
- Ability to organize work.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
