5:00 PM* *Subject to Change Description of Duties / Essential Functions
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and publishing custom applications, reports, dashboards, and data feeds supporting the Houston Emergency Center. The role is a member of the Houston Emergency Center Applications Team. These applications will use data from the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) database and other existing SQL databases. The candidate will use various development tools such as Microsoft Visual Studio, SSRS, and Power BI. The candidate will coordinate with public safety customers in developing the required software. Close coordination with other divisions within HITS is required. The candidate will work closely with the Houston Emergency Center Applications Manager to coordinate the development and implementation of custom software. Must be able to obtain CJIS Certification. Working Conditions
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment. Extended work hours may be required due to situational emergencies, such as critical systems failures or extended installation times. If designated TIER 1, the successful candidate may be required to stay at the Emergency Center during major events, such as severe storms. Minimum Requirements
Education Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field. Information systems-specific technical certifications may be substituted for 1 year of either the education or the experience requirement, as applicable. Related professional Information Systems experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Experience Requirements
At least five (5) years of technology experience supporting applications. A Master's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement. License Requirements
A valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2). Preferences
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. Preference will be given to applicants possessing the following: Experience in supporting public safety or large call center application systems is preferable. General Information
