As a Legal Counsel, Investment and Asset Management , you will play a key role in providing strategic and legal support for investment and asset management activities, protecting the company's interests.

The Legal Services – Investment team is primarily dedicated to supporting our subsidiary iA Global Asset Management (iAGAM) . iAGAM is the portfolio manager for iA Financial Group and manages assets consisting of general funds of insurance companies, segregated funds, mutual funds, and managed accounts, with a total value of over $100 billion.

What you will accomplish with us

As a Legal Counsel, you will be at the core of our mission. Here are the main responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic legal advice related to portfolio management and investment funds.

  • Draft and negotiate various agreements, including investment management agreements and agreements with sub-advisors.

  • Support product distribution, including reviewing marketing materials.

  • Offer guidance on Canadian securities and investment laws, including NI

  • Anticipate, identify, and manage legal risks associated with new investment strategies, emerging activities, and regulatory changes.

  • Stay informed on regulatory trends and developments in the investment sector and participate in key industry activities and events.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external business partners.

What will accelerate your success in this role

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in securities law, gained in a law firm, asset management company, or financial institution.

  • Is a member of the Quebec Bar or holds a license to practice law in Canada.

  • Is recognized for deep expertise in Canadian securities law, including regulatory, commercial, and corporate aspects, with a specialization in investment funds and asset management (NI

  • Excels at managing multiple priorities and working independently in a dynamic and constantly evolving environment.

  • Demonstrates strong ability to simplify complex concepts for business partners and draft clear, concise documents.

  • Is known for excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.

  • Has an advanced level of proficiency in French, both spoken and written.

  • Has an advanced level of proficiency in English, as the role involves drafting and reviewing legal documents (80%) and holding meetings and calls (70%) with English-speaking partners on a daily basis.
