Role Overview:
Our Toronto office is currently seeking a Business Development Specialist in our Marketing & Business Development, reporting to our Manager of Business Development. The Business Development Specialist assists in the development and implementation of strategies and marketing plans aimed at developing new business with existing and prospective clients. These activities are managed in consultation with various practice groups to help drive, attract, and retain a diverse group of clients in a variety of industries and sectors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Practice/Industry Group Strategic Planning, Execution, and Support
- Developing, implementing, and managing select practice and industry group business plans, identifying opportunities to strategically raise group profiles and cross-sell services.
- Assisting in identifying and evaluating new business opportunities and targets.
- Working closely with lead lawyers to develop and track annual budgets.
- Negotiating and managing partnerships/sponsorships with large industry associations and conferences.
- Working with the Events team to coordinate webinars, seminars, conferences, and events.
- Drafting, pitching, and coordinating speaking opportunities for lawyers.
- Drafting and managing marketing collateral.
- Collaborating with the Marketing Communications and Events teams on go-to-market campaigns.
Ranking Directories and League Tables
- Drafting and managing submissions to directories, rankings, and award organizations, including Chambers, IFLR1000, and various industry awards.
- Managing an expertise database of deals and cases completed by lawyers at the firm.
- Promoting big deals and case wins in various publications including Lexpert and Canadian Lawyer .
- Managing league table submissions.
Research
- Conducting research, analysis, and reports on existing and potential clients, competitor activity, and market/industry trends using various platforms including CapitalIQ and Mergermarket .
Other Business Development Support
- Supporting individual lawyers in their business development and marketing efforts including thought leadership, social media, networking opportunities, and individual BD plans.
The successful candidate must have the following education, experience and/or demonstrated skills:
- Three (3) + years of progressive marketing or business development experience, preferably in a law firm or other professional services environment.
- Undergraduate degree, preferably with additional relevant education or equivalent work experience.
- Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to understand legal topics.
- Proactive self-starter and strategic thinker who can take ownership of their responsibilities – this is a hands-on role that requires strategic thinking and tactical execution.
- Strong organizational skill. Has the ability to prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
