313A / G1 Gas Technician (Commercial HVAC / Gas Systems)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced 313A licensed Refrigeration / Air Conditioning Mechanic with a
valid G1 Gas Technician certification for a fixed-term contract at a school facility in North
Etobicoke. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and
servicing the building’s heating, ventilation, rooftop, and gas-fired systems. This is a 3-day per
week contract (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) with a guaranteed 27 hours/week, at $55/hour
(nonunion). Additional project work may be offered if the technician is interested in more hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain boilers, pumps, hydronic heating systems (including entrance heaters), rooftop HVAC units, exhaust fans, and other gasfired equipment.
- Perform regular preventative maintenance and routine inspections to ensure all systems operate safely and efficiently.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues, gas leaks, malfunctioning components or inefficient operation; perform repairs or replace parts as needed.
- Handle light handyman work as required in and around mechanical rooms and building maintenance zones.
- Manage and coordinate subcontractors / external service providers on-site when outside trades are engaged.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant gassafety codes and regulations applicable to a G1 license.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and service activities.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid 313A Refrigeration / Air Conditioning Mechanic certification (or equivalent)
- Valid Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) G1 Gas Technician licence —highest level of gas technician certification allowing work on any size natural gas / propane–fired appliance.
- Proven experience working on commercial or institutional HVAC / gas-fired systems: boilers, rooftop units, hydronic heaters, exhaust fans, pumps, etc.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills — able to identify gas or mechanical issues and perform timely corrective work.
- Ability to coordinate and supervise subcontractors / outside trades when required.
- Good communication and recordkeeping skills.
- Flexibility to work the scheduled days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (guaranteed 27 h/week; possibility of more hours on other projects).
- Understanding of applicable safety codes and regulations for gasfired equipment, as per Ontario standards.
Compensation & Contract Details
- Rate: $55.00 / hour (nonunion)
- Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday — 27 guaranteed hours/week
- Location: School facility in North Etobicoke
